Currency and Prices

The only currency accepted in Latvia is Latvian Lats (LVL). 1 Lats is currently (10/29) 1.409 Euro, or 2.077 US Dollar. You can check the current rates at Yahoo Finance.

You may draw money from your account at any bank or cashpoint (ATM), or you can change Euro or US Dollars into Lats directly at Riga-airport or at many currency exchange points in the city. Many shops accept also credit cards.

Some typical prices in Riga:

• Taxi: LVL 1.50 per ride plus 0.60 per km. Taxi ride from the airport to the hotel normally should not cost more than 10 LVL.
• Bus/Trolleybus/Tram: LVL 0.70 per ride, if you buy the ticket from the driver. Cheaper tickets (so called e-talons (e-ticket)) for 1, 5, 10 and 20 rides are available in ticket vending machines and press trade outlets.
• Dinner - starting from LVL 5
• Beer (0.5l) - LVL 1.50 - LVL 2.50
